When I picture Thuringwethil, I imagine Bartok from Anastasia.

I bet if Dior had given up the Nauglamir to the dwarves, Caranthir could have figured out a way to pay or otherwise convince them to restore the Silmaril to its true owners.

I always thought Maglor’s fate was the most tragic out of all the Noldor.

I’m distinctly annoyed every time I visit a Wiki page mentioning Míriel and see they’ve spelled it “Serindë”.

It seems like a lot of Elwing’s actions were inconducive to her people’s safety. Residual hate from the Kinslaying seems to have obscured her rationality; her people died because she wouldn’t give up the Silmaril. She also abandoned her children even though she grew up without her own mother and experienced that sort of hard loss.

I think the elves of Doriath and Sirion should have known better before denying the Fëanorians the Silmarils. It was pretty foolish of them not to have taken the historical precedent set at Alqualondë into account. The Teleri didn’t even have a Silmaril and the Fëanorians slaughtered them. The Doriathrim had one, ‘unjustly’ from some perspectives. It was pretty ignorant of them not to realize that they were seriously endangering themselves by keeping the Silmaril back.

My favourite part of the Silmarillion is Akallabeth because of Sauron. One can think what they want about him and his actions, but damn! He defeated a whole nation on his own by using psychology. No force of arms, no terrible weapon, just clever words and acting. That is beyond awesome.

The Beren and Lúthien story would make a great animated Disney Princess movie. Lúthien has the hair, the singing voice, and the animal friends, and Thingol is the overprotective dad. Beren could be the “prince”. And all the villains would be so Disney it would hurt. It would be perfect.

When Sauron enters the scene in his Annatar form, I imagine heavenly cherubs singing and angelic violins playing in the backround.

When I read Morgoth’s lines, I always hear James Earl Jones as Darth Vader.
